Encourager

Encouragement for your daily walk with God

I’m not as good at this as I’d like to be, but I want to be someone who encourages others. You may have noticed I’ve given my Blog a name that reflects that—“eDevotion: Encouragement for your daily walk with God”. Those who are gifted encouragers seem to know just what to say and do when others are going through difficult times. Their words and actions give strength and comfort to those who are discouraged and/or grieving.

Several “encouragers” are mentioned in the Bible. Jethro offered wise counsel, which eased the strain on Moses (Exodus 18). Epaphroditus risked his personal safety to visit an imprisoned Paul who had been separated from those who loved him (Philippians 2:25-30). Still in prison, Paul needed to see his friend Timothy in whom he found strength and encouragement (Philippians 2:19-20; 2nd Timothy 4:9). And who can forget Joseph, nicknamed Barnabas, whose very name means “son of encouragement” (Acts 4:36).

Now, may I encourage you to work with God the Holy Spirit, who wants to cultivate you and develop you into the kind of person who can strengthen others? As you mature in Him, the words you share, and the things you do, can encourage your family, your friends, your neighbors, and your coworkers.

Meanwhile, I thought I should send Epaphroditus back to you. He is a true brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier. And he was your messenger to help me in my need. (Philippians 2:25)
