Who ever said the Christian life is easy? On the contrary, it is truly hard work. It involves learning, then integrating the truths of God’s Word into your daily life. A mature spiritual life doesn’t happen by accident, it requires consistent effort. 

Jesus pictured this in His Sermon on the Mount where He taught a profound truth. It involved a wise man who built his house on a rock, no easy task. It takes a great amount of effort to attach a foundation on a rock. While there may be other places that are easier to build on, attaching a foundation to a rock makes it secure.

What benefit is derived from the formidable task of attaching a foundation on a rock? Watch to see what happens when a storm comes. The structure built on the rock is able to withstand the violent storms of life.

As I said previously, a mature spiritual life doesn’t happen by accident. Furthermore, there are no shortcuts to spiritual maturity. So roll up your sleeves and keep at it. Do the hard work of building your life on the rock. If you do, when the storms come, none can unsettle you.

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. (Matthew 7:24)
