Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
Make
Room for God
I
love the way the ancients described things. They would often look at something
and then describe it using something very familiar with their readers. Take,
for example, when God comes into a life in His power. It is a time of rejoicing
and hope for the future. The prophet Isaiah likened it to a child born to a
barren woman. When the child arrives, it changes everything. For one thing, the
old dwelling, comfortable for husband and wife, would have to be enlarged.
Furthermore, the presence of children completely causes the parents to
rearrange their lifestyle.
“Make
room for God” is a catch phrase in Isaiah. You must “enlarge the place of your
tent” because God’s presence will rearrange your lifestyle. It will add a new
dimension to your life, your family, your church.
That
is really the truth of the matter. A Christ follower doesn’t just add on Christ
and then it is merely business as usual. When you make Him your Savior and
Lord, everything changes. Isn’t that what Paul said, “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation…” (2nd Corinthians
5:17). The life of a Christ follower should be richer and fuller—life abundant
(John 10:10). And as the Christ follower matures, you would expect it to
increase in measure.
The
question before us is, How do you make
room for God in your life? Here are a few suggestions:
1.
Repent—that’s right, repent. When you repent, you are cleansed (1st John 1:9),
thus ready for service.
2.
Give the Holy Spirit freedom to do as He wills in your life.
3.
Watch for the Spirit’s activity in your life—at home, school, church, grocery
store, EVERYWHERE. Expect to be filled with Christ’s power through the Spirit (Acts 1:8) everyday
as He “stretches” you for service that you have not previously experienced.
Enlarge the place of your tent, and
let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen
your cords, and strengthen your stakes. (Isaiah 54:2)
