Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
Time
for a reality check. Let’s do it in the form of a question. Do you think some
Christ followers are quarrelsome? How long did you have to think about it
before coming up with your answer? 5 minutes? 1 minute? 10 seconds? A
Nano-second?
If
you are often quarreling with others, stop and check your motives. Even if you
think your motives are right, repentance is necessary because a quarrelsome
spirit is disobedience to clear commands of Scripture.
Some
just want to be right; some want exoneration; some want to be thought of as
wise or smart—to gain the esteem of those listening. The truth of the matter is
that God didn’t appoint you to be an argument winner! No matter how right you
are, there is no God-honoring-victory when quarreling has taken place. And just
in case you’re interested, my computer dictionary defines quarrel: “an angry
argument or disagreement.”
A
better approach is a Christlike character—one that demonstrates patience, even
with those who mistreat and misunderstand you. Quarreling to win may prove your
point or view, but loving people as Christ did will win you friends.
And a servant of the Lord must not
quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient. (2 Timothy 2:24)
