Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
OK,
dear Christ follower, here is another of my simple multiple-choice tests.
Choose how you would respond in each situation.
You’re
stranded on a deserted island, and you’re desperate to escape. Suddenly a small
plane appears. You…
a)
hide in the bushes
b)
cross your fingers and wish the plane to land on your island
c)
tap out SOS in Morse Code on your teeth
d)
none of the above
You
want to become a professional singer. You…
a)
quit taking voice lessons
b)
take a vow of silence
c)
listen to nothing but Yoko Ono records
d)
none of the above
You
want to develop self-control. You…
a)
burst out in anger every chance you get
b)
get drunk every once in a while
c)
start experimenting with drugs
d)
none of the above
If
you answered “d” to each of these scenarios, I’d like to know why. Is it
because doing any of the “a-c” things is counter productive? Of course it is.
It would be fruitless to do any of those things and expect a positive result,
right? The honest truth is, the result would be exactly the opposite of what
you wanted to accomplish.
So
let’s take another test: It you want to walk closely with God, if you want to
be a faithful witness, if you want to do God’s will, if you want to pray
fervently and effectively, if you want to be Christlike, you must…
a)
put all fruitless activities aside
b)
put all fruitless activities aside
c)
put all fruitless activities aside
d)
all the above!
Steer clear of the fruitless
activities of darkness; let your lives expose their futility. Ephesians 5:11 (Phillips Translation)
