Casting or Keeping – The Decision Is Yours

eDevotion
Encouragement for your daily walk with God

Here’s my question for today: When you became a Christ follower, did all of your problems disappear, never to return again? It’s almost a silly question, isn’t it? While your problems may not end, you have an Advocate to whom you can take your EVERY concern!

The recipients of Peter’s letters faced severe persecution. They didn’t even know whom they could trust. Anyone; a friend, a neighbor or acquaintance, or even a family member might betray them, resulting in their torment and possible death. Peter encouraged his readers that Christ was in control, and capable of handling each and every trial they faced.

So he told them to; epiri÷ptw: to throw or hurl something upon something else — “cast all your cares on Him...”

Casting your cares is a choice. It means you can keep your cares, or you can consciously hurl, throw, cast them on Christ, and let Him carry them. We live in a world of self-reliance while at the same time being taught it is praiseworthy. But in this case, self-reliance will only exacerbate the problem. If we are to be truly freed from the burden of our concerns, we must choose to cast them on Jesus—into His capable hands.

One final thing. Peter didn’t, and neither should we, distinguish between big and little cares. He said, “Cast all your cares…” One of our self-reliant blunders is to assume we can deal with our cares, and then we discover that we really can’t. We are but feeble children with troubles that exceed our strength. But here stands our powerful Christ, ready to take, and carry, all of our burdens. Praise the Lord!

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1st Peter 5:7)
