Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
When
Mt. Saint Helens erupted in 1980, some thought it was the eruption to end all
eruptions. But a mere eleven years later, Mt. Pinatubo (1991) woke up from
her 500-year sleep and released a volcanic blast with twice the power of St. Helens.
A cloud of ashes rose over 50,000 feet into the atmosphere and created what
became known as “Black Saturday!” A climatologist was asked to account for the
massive damage to people and villages, and he said, "When a volcano is
silent for many years, people forget it's a volcano and begin to treat it like
a mountain."
Now
there’s a sermon, right there. Christ followers should be aware that his/her
sinful nature could erupt at any time. What a catastrophe to discount that possibility
even though it has been silent for a long period of time
Our
spiritual enemy would love for us to downplay our sinful nature, because every
eruption of it, big or small, affects our spiritual walk with the Lord. Be
alert! Be watchful! Be on guard! Sin, like a volcanic eruption, can occur at any
moment. That is a real possibility. But let not your hearts be troubled, dear
friends. We can prepare for such eruptions by living in the Word. Then, the
fire that burns in our hearts will not be the burning desires of the flesh, but the
divine fire of the Holy Spirit!
Your Word have I hid in my heart that
I might not sin against God.
(Psalm 119:11)
