Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
The
Christian life is not as difficult to understand and to live as some make it
out to be. The sinless, obedient Christ lives in us (Galatians 2:20). Furthermore,
God’s will is not that difficult to understand either. First, we have the gift
of His Word (the Bible), which reveals His will—clearly. Add to that, He gave
us the gift of the Holy Spirit, who guides us to His will in every situation (John
16:13). The challenge to every Christ follower is simply to be attentive to the
Holy Spirit and obey what has been revealed in the Word.
There
is a story in the Old Testament that illustrates what I’m talking about. It
involves the Children of Israel gathered by two mountains, Mount Ebal and Mount
Gerizim. While there, God gave them detailed instructions of what He expected
of them as they prepared to enter the Land of Promise. Everything they needed
to know was laid out before them. Then God simply asked them to make a
choice—obey or disobey. To obey meant they would receive His blessing. To
disobey meant that they would experience His wrath.
It’s
really that way for us too; that’s why the Christian life is not so complex.
There is no struggle to understand God’s will about gossip, or forgiveness, or
honesty, or adultery. The will of God is perfectly clear. The question before
us is how will we respond?
Make
no mistake about it; God will not excuse anyone who disobeys His instructions
because they say it is vague or complex. God the Holy Spirit always gives a
Christ follower sufficient truth and the power to make the right steps.
For this commandment which I command
you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. Deuteronomy 30:1
