Encouragement for your daily
walk with God
A Christ follower can learn a lot from the account of David and
Goliath. One’s faith is not linked to size, strength, or resources. It rests
squarely in the person and power of God. Focusing on our “giants”, make them
seem, well, “gigantic”!
Goliath intimidated the veteran warriors, frightening even the bravest
Israeli soldiers. But the lad, David, would neither be intimidated nor
frightened. Sure, he recognized Goliath’s size. He even heard his boastful
taunts. I’m absolutely sure he noticed Goliath’s “giant-size” weapons—his
sword, shield, and javelin. So David didn’t run into battle ill-equipped. He
didn’t arm himself with the usual weaponry; instead, he gathered up some smooth
stones, fit for a slingshot. Now prepared, David was ready for the battle,
whether it was easy or required great effort.
People of faith do not ignore difficulties; they are acutely aware of
them. However, armed with the knowledge of God’s presence, they refuge to
become discouraged or to give up. It is impossible to stand in the presence of
God and remain pessimistic.
Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword,
with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of
hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord
will deliver you into my hand.'' 1st Samuel 17:45-46a
