The Love of God

eDevotion
Encouragement for your daily walk with God

There is a precious truth in the Bible that Christ followers hold dear: God is love. A true knowledge of this sets us free to enjoy His fullness in us. His love for us is not due to our worthiness of it—none of us deserve it. It is His nature to love. “God is love,” the Bible says. To know that you are an object of God’s love gives you an inherent worth that nothing can diminish.

Once the Christ follower grasps this truth, it helps him/her to understand God’s interaction in our lives. So when He disciplines us, we see it as an expression of His love. Because of that, we do not resent Him. When God says, “No” to a request we make of Him, we know He has our best interests at heart—He “cares for you.” It becomes a pleasure to do His will because we know He will only do what is good and what brings Him glory (Romans 8:28). Furthermore, accepting His love will enable you to return love to Him as well as to others (1st John 4:19).

There is joy and security in knowing that God dearly loves you. Knowledge of His deep love for you sets you free to enjoy other expressions of love He lavishly pours out on us each day. I say, “Praise the Lord!” What do you say?

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in Him. (1 John 4:16)
