Victory and Defeat

eDevotion
Encouragement for your daily walk with God

How would you like to know you’d be victorious in every battle you faced? That seemed to the case with the Israelites as they got close to the Promised Land. Their victory or defeat centered on their obedience to God’s commandments. To obey Him meant victory. Disobedience would only bring defeat. It was just that simple.

Don’t get me wrong here. A promise of victory didn’t mean they would be free from battle. No! They would, on many occasions, have to strap on their armor and meet the enemy head-on. There would be fierce battles with success going back and forth, and there would be many casualties. Yet, as they were obedient in walking close to God, they knew that ultimately they would win.

I think it’s like that for Christ followers. We have a choice to walk closely with God in obedience to His word. And in doing so, we are assured victory over our challenges. Just like the Israelites, we will not escape battles with the enemy. But as we face them in obedience, God is with us and we will be victorious in His will. However, if we choose to detach ourselves from Him, we face certain defeat.

Listen to the Lord as He speaks in His word. Choose to stay close to Him in obedience. If you do, you will know victory and not defeat.

The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways….The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them. (Deuteronomy 28:7, 25)
