"Wonky" Seasons

eDevotion
Encouragement for your daily walk with God

Every Christ follower who has walked with the Lord for any length of time knows that there are times when things get a little “wonky.” Wonky is what my grandkids say when something is out of sorts, challenging, difficult. There is no escaping a season like this. Paul said these times are “common to man” (1st Corinthians 10:13).

Every major Bible character faced wonky seasons. Take Joseph, for example. He was bushwhacked again and again. But you’d be hard-pressed to find him bitter. Why? Because the Lord was with him! (See Genesis 39:2, 3, 5, 21, and 23).

Think about it for a moment. Half of Joseph’s life reads like a Greek tragedy, filled with betrayal and pain. Yet through all of it, God was with him. The challenges he faced were not designed to defeat him, but rather to grow him.

God did not forget Joseph, and neither will He forget you. He doesn’t forget your obedience. He doesn’t overlook the times you were mistreated. He remembers it all—He never forgets!

Jim Welsh, former Associate Pastor at Emmanuel Faith Church, was fond of saying, “Keep on keeping on!” That’s the key. Don’t become weary in well doing. Like Joseph, you will reap if you stick it out.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1st Corinthians 15:58
