Why Avoid the Impossible?

Encouragement for your daily walk with God

Even with a cursory reading of the Gospels, one would have to conclude that the original disciples of Jesus were challenged far beyond their faith. On more than one occasion Jesus said to them, “O ye of little faith!”

How about the time Jesus told His disciples to give food to over 5,000 who were hungry? The cost of purchasing food for that many would far exceed their meager funds. So they looked around and found a lad with five loaves of bread and two fishes. Enough to feed a crowd that size? Hardly!

Why would Jesus ask such a thing of them? It was absurd to ask them to feed that massive crowd with such a measly amount of food, wasn’t it? And yet He did, and when the disciples obeyed Him, they found themselves in the middle of a miracle.

Christ followers will be so challenged; maybe not as dramatically as that account, but when you find yourself in circumstances that require a miracle, don’t avoid them. Why run? Just stay where the Master is. I think He delights in having us attempt things that outweigh our resources; that way, He will get the glory for a job well done!

Have you been challenged to do something that requires a step of faith? Stay with the Master and don’t walk away from it. Even if it seems utterly impossible, imagine the joy that awaits you—and all around you—when you experience who He is and what He can do!

But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." (Matthew 14:16)
